Wijck is a grand and versatile hospitality concept where there’s always something going on. From a long lunch on our sunny terrace to a romantic dinner in the restaurant. And from high-energy events and business gatherings in our basement to guilty-pleasure karaoke nights. Wijck is here for lunch, dinner, cappuccino, or cocktails, for meetings, karaoke, events, and first dates.
a place with a history
On the corner of the Grote Markt and Poelestraat stands a building that has watched the city evolve for centuries. In the seventeenth century, it was home to the Busch family. Later came shops: a bookstore, a coat warehouse, and clothing stores. In the early twentieth century, J. Boterweg even sold 'East Indian equipment' here.
In 1945, most of the Grote Markt's eastern wall burned down, but this building survived. Yet during the post-war reconstruction, it made way for progress: Groningen wanted air, space, and clear sightlines, pushing the entire facade back seventeen meters. Since then, the building hosted new functions, faces, and stories. Today, it’s time for a whole new chapter: Wijck.
A neighborhood of its own at the grote markt
Wijck was built as its own district within Groningen: one spot with different spaces, vibes, and possibilities. From remote working and lunch to dining and dancing in the basement. Wijck adapts to your day.
Created by a team with a passion for hostmanship and the drive to build something Groningen hadn't seen before. Not a rigid venue where you only drop by for a formal three-course dinner, but a place that lives from early morning until late at night.
